Although the weather was not our friend this past weekend but the U11 home tourney went off without a hitch. Friday night's storm had us worried and brought some teams to the area early in order to avoid trouble attending Saturday.
The Coldwater Wildcats U11 Team 1 and Team 2 welcomed teams from Oro, Essa, Brock, Huntsville, Amalguin and Saugeen Shores for the Coldwater Classic. We had wonderful participation and support from all teams and parents.
Team 1 started off the day at 8am against Oro with a close 6-5 win. The next game saw an elated Essa team prevail over the visitors from Huntsville. Brock Wild came to town and won over Coldwater 2 then Almaguin Ice Devils won over the Saugeen Shores competitors.
The day was filled with a wonderful bake sale, gift card stick raffles, some fantastic raffle baskets and an amazing corn hole set crafted by a local grandparent. The parents and players all participated with the always sold out chuck a puck in the afternoon.
Games proceeded all afternoon with the B division final between Oro and Saugeeen with Oro taking the win. The final A division final took to the ice at 7pm with Coldwater team 1 Wildcats meeting up with Brock Wild. It was an exciting match up with the locals making a big comeback in the third to score the game winning goal with just over a minute left in the game. A 5-4 finish for the Wildcats.
Huge thank you to the parents and bench staff of both Coldwater teams for a great day of hockey, friendship and excitement for all teams attending. Both teams did Coldwater very proud both on and off the ice.
