LEXIE'S LEGS FUNDRAISER/FAMILY SKATE
February 18, 2020/Coldwater – Individuals from across Severn and Oro-Medonte hit the ice to show their support for Lexi LaChapelle, a local 8-year-old girl with Cerebral Palsy. On February 1st, the Coldwater Minor Hockey Association’s (CMHA) two Peewee hockey teams, led by parents Jeff Marley, Brian Zulak and Jen Straw, joined forces to host a fundraising skate in support of Freeing Lexi’s Legs. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the skate raised more than $2,725 through gate fees, donations, a silent auction, bake and chili sales and a 50/50 draw.

A special thank you to our amazing peewee players and families for their hard work and donations.

We would also like to thank our generous sponsors: Regent Tool & Die Inc., Straw Electric, Adco Tire & Auto Inc., Marley Plumbing, Excellent Cleaning Services and Awrey DesignThank you to the business and individuals that provided in-k ind support: Township of Severn, Coldwater Foodland, Responsive Mailing Inc., Fox’s Bakery and Deli, Old Dutch Foods, and Michelle van Niekirk,We would also like to acknowledge those who donated to this event: Kevin Athron, Cheryll Barr, Dena Parro, the Beard Family, the Moore Family, Lee Carpenter, Sobey’s Inc., Tiffany Dining Lounge and Restaurant, Copperpot Nuts, Bozco’s Pizza, Paul Sadlon Motors, Barrie Chrysler, Bayfield Ford Lincoln, 365 Sports, The Elmvale Tribe, Karen Aigeldinger, Trent Fogerty, Pure Country 106, The Dock FM, Coldwater Minor Hockey Association, and Active North Physiotherapy. Background:In November, Lexi underwent Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery at the SickKids to remove the spacticity from her legs, allowing her to move freely, without pain and with increased endurance. Since then, Lexi has been undergoing intensive physical therapy at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto. The cost of therapy was not covered by OHIP or private insurance, leaving Lexi’s family with a significant financial burden. In total, more than $3,700 has been donated through events supported by the Peewee teams.
