MIDGET 1 - Coldwater Wildcats Midgets win Home Tournament!
Submitted By Tim McConaghy on Wednesday, February 5, 2020
The Coldwater Wildcats Midget LL1 team recently claimed their own home tournament.  Team members include: Goalies Jackson Mitchell and Sam Neely. Middle Row (L to R): Logan Cox, Kieran McConaghy, Jordyn Laughlin, Aidan Silk, Wesley O'Leary. Back Row (L to R): Owen Johnston, Scott Henderson, Ethan Ledebrink, Dalton Gauley, Avery Lovering, Hunter Sisson, Travis Bell, Bobby Nahuis, and Lane Mattice.  Coaches are Steve Lovering, Danny Bell and Brandon Mitchell.  Absent from the photo are players Joey Roemer, Dylan Petroff and Aidan Aigeldinger. Tim McConaghy (Manager) and Josh Bell (Trainer).

The Coldwater Classic took place January 18th with 8 teams competing for the title in the 8-team Midget Division.

The Widcats opened the tournament facing-off against the Barrie Colts (Silver).  The Wildcats would jump into an early lead and hold on for a 3-1 win.

In game two the Wildcats went up against a tough Parry Sound Shamrocks team.  In a close battle the team skated to a narrow 2-0 win behind tight defense and solid goaltending to advance to the tournament final.

For the championship final the team would face the Barrie Colts (Orange), the only other remaining 2-0 team in the tourney.  After falling behind 3-1 through 2 periods of play, the Wildcats would rally with two quick goals in the 3rd to tie up the game.  Although the team applied enough pressure over the following minutes to win, the Colts were able to hold off the attack, sending the game to overtime.  The exciting 5 minute 3-on-3 overtime period was back and forth but did not determine a winner, sending the game to a shootout, where the Wildcats would come up with the eventual winner taking the title.
